Tucked gently into the Kentish countryside and still within easy reach of bustling London lies the vibrant market town of Sevenoaks - a place rich in history and abundant natural beauty that embraces the modernity and pace of contemporary living.

As you explore this charming town's nooks and crannies, you'll uncover its share of hidden gems.

Though seemingly its own little bubble admitting only calm and quiet, Sevenoaks still retains an abundance of acclaimed restaurants dishing up inventive farm-to-table fare and upmarket independent shops speckled along the smart high street.

Read on as we have put together seven of our favourite local spots.

St. Julian's Club: A Sanctuary for Families

St. Julian's Club, nestled in the heart of Sevenoaks, is not only an exclusive haven for adults but also a remarkably child-friendly retreat. Surrounded by picturesque landscapes, this members-only club offers a welcoming atmosphere for families, where children can frolic and explore in a secure environment.

The outdoor swimming pools, set against the scenic backdrop, offer a refreshing escape where you can unwind, bask in the sunshine, and make beautiful memories with your loved ones. Savour afternoon tea by the fireside or a delicious seasonal menu paired beautifully with wines from their cellar collection.

Laura’s recommendation: Members have free access to the neighbouring Riverhill Himalayan Gardens during Bluebell Festival in spring. A sight to behold!

Mount Vineyard

Mount Vineyard is a boutique vineyard featuring 10 acres of vines within its 28-acre estate. It produces a number of award-winning still and sparkling wines, including The Kent Wine of the Year 2017.

Family run and perched against the stunning North Downs backdrop, this vineyard is all about sipping on exceptional vintages and soaking in the breathtaking views. Sample their wonderful selection next to the vines before dining at The Mount Restaurant on seasonal British cuisine.

Laura recommends: why not end your day at the nearby Samuel Palmer. This traditional pub has recently been lovingly restored by the owners of Mount Vineyard and received an award within 15 months of opening.

Folking in the Strawberries at Stonepitts Farm: Music and Berries

A beloved local summertime tradition was sparked a few years back when, in order to pass the time one day, the farmer's son brought his guitar to play at the “pick-your-own” berry patch. Out of that serendipitous moment, Folking in the Strawberries was born - now an iconic annual music festival celebrating Kent's sweet harvests through folk song right in the beautiful undulating landscape. The festival features live music, food and drinks; and is a great way to spend a summer day.

Laura’s recommendation: sign up to the Stonepitts Farm newsletter to be the first to hear about when the tickets go live. Last year all dates sold out within the first fifteen minutes! On the day, bring comfy shoes, camping chairs, a bottle or two of chilled bubbles, a punnet for picking strawberries and your best picnic blanket.

Visit Knole Park & Knole House

For nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike, a visit to Knole Park is an absolute must. This sprawling estate boasts enchanting woodland, manicured gardens, and a majestic 15th-century Jacobean country house steeped in history.

After visiting the book shop which hosts regular events for children and a coffee shop with the best cheese scones in town, take a leisurely stroll through the park's grounds, spot the resident deer, explore the intricate architecture of Knole House, and immerse yourself in centuries of heritage. Knole House, with its historic grandeur and sprawling parkland, is a National Trust treasure encapsulates the essence of Sevenoaks.

Laura’s recommendation: Winter fun: enter the first gate on St. Julian’s Road coming up from Riverhill and enjoy hours of sledging fun on a snowy winter’s day. Just bring along some hot drinks and some spare cups as you will most certainly bump into people you know!

The Hart Spa - A Secret Haven of Tranquillity

A luxurious retreat located in the heart of Sevenoaks; The Hart Spa offers a range of treatments that will leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. From the first moment you enter, you feel completely taken care of, as the staff puts you at ease and ensures you receive the best possible treatment every time. Indulge in a variety of excellent therapies and pampering at this award-winning spa.

Laura’s recommendation: Book your brows with Alex – she is fabulous!

One Tree Hill – A Walk to Remember

For those seeking a serenity, One Tree Hill is a true escape. This peaceful walking haven offers winding trails, birdwatching opportunities, and stunning views, providing a respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Embrace the tranquillity of nature and explore the beauty of Sevenoaks in this verdant sanctuary. Admire panoramic views of the North Downs from one of the highest points in the area. Spot landmarks across south and west Kent, then enjoy woodland walks through this iconic beauty spot. Pack a picnic, bring your camera, and get ready for a stroll to remember.

Laura’s recommendation: an ideal spot for dog walkers as they can be let off the lead here; unlike Knole Park where they have to remain on the lead so as to not startle the free-roaming herd of deer.

A Riverside Stroll at Lullingstone Country Park

For a laid-back afternoon, take a scenic stroll along the river Darent for a dose of nature therapy. It's a riverside escape that lets you reconnect with the outdoors without venturing too far from town. The walk offers awesome views of the surrounding countryside and is a great way to spend a day in the fresh air.

Laura’s recommendation: On your way home, pick some seasonal produce from the farm shop at nearby Castle Farm – famous for their Instagram worthy lavender fields in summer.
