My name is Laura Millar and I'm an expert property finder located in Sevenoaks, Kent. I moved out of London nearly a decade ago with my husband and our two children and know just how difficult and stressful relocating can be. It doesn't have to be that way though, and I am here to assure you that there really is life after London!

Making the decision to move

Whether you're considering a move for a lifestyle change, better schools, or just to find that dream home with a garden, I understand the intricacies and emotional nuances involved in such a decision.

Despite needing to find a great secondary school for our eldest, the final straw or twig as it happens, amongst many that convinced us to leave London was a tiny one in the grand scheme of things. I was born in Munich, my husband is from Scotland. I spent 15 years getting closer to the hustle and bustle and whilst enjoying his time in the city, he quietly spent 15 years longing to escape. The final push he needed was paying an horrendous sum for an emergency sprig of holly for his family’s long tradition of decorating the picture frames at Christmas!

With the end of our eldest’s time at junior school nearing the two year horizon, the next two years were spent searching for our dream home.

All the skills I had previously gained working in real estate and as a professional Interior Designer played a huge part in our search, and we spent endless weekends visiting every town and village in Surrey and Kent.  

I went to all the school shows, bought the Good School’s Guide and talked to every person I could to find out more about each potential area. I even made noise and congestion maps to pinpoint the quietest roads, those with pavements and those with a short hop to the woods for the dog. In short, it was exhausting, and I love the fact that, by following my passion to work as a bespoke home finder, I can make finding your dream home and your relocation journey much easier for you.

Why did we choose to live in Sevenoaks?  

I must admit it wasn’t easy to decide where to move to.  I’m a city girl and my husband is a country boy. I was nervous about leaving my old life and what kept me up at night was the fear of leaving myself behind as a proud, culturally active, international Londoner. It seemed impossible to find a place that neither of us would need to compromise on. Until we discovered Sevenoaks… 

Sevenoaks has everything that we were looking for great schools and a feeling of community, an easy commute to London, woodland walks on our doorstep, freedom and independence for our children, outdoor swimming, Waitrose, Space NK and even an abundance of fresh and free holly!  

The historic town and its surrounding villages also have a diverse range of properties, so regardless of whether you are looking for a modern family home, a discreet estate, or a period bolthole, there will be something for you.  Before launching my independent home finder service, I worked for Knight Frank Estate Agents in Sevenoaks. It was there that, whilst acting for the sellers, I discovered that my passion was actually taking care of house buyers; demonstrating the potential of how a house may match their lives and how best to bring about unseen potential. I know that my services can make a huge difference to your homebuying journey, and over the years, I have made numerous, valuable connections within the industry.  I have also gained trade connections and insights that I am happy to share with my clients, as that’s exactly the sort of knowledge I wish I’d had when moving to Sevenoaks all those years ago.
